Nowadays, RSS news are a great way to stay informed and find out in real time if something new an interesting happens. The number of sites that support RSS feeds is raising by the hour and today it's almost impossible to find a respectable news site that doesn't offer. The problem is reading this RSS information. Internet Explorer offers the possibility to display RSS news and even Windows 7 includes a widget that can display RSS feeds, but both lack a lot of features that even the average user might need. For example, none of them supports multiple RSS feeds. Fortunately there is a program that has these missing functions and that's RssReader.

It's a program that takes little time to install, doesn't require exaggerated system resources and can run on every version of Microsoft Windows.

The interface is no eye candy, it doesn't support themes, nor has visual artifacts, but it's very practical and easy to use and every option and function is easy to get to. All these functions can be accessed either using the classical menu, or by using the intuitive graphical buttons, which are very helpful for beginners. News feeds can be selected from a built-in directory, where the language and the name of every feed are clearly shown, can be entered manually as a website link or can be imported from a XML file.

Multiple news feeds can be added into the program and can be organized in groups, according to the type of news they contain. The unread news headlines are shown in bold, like the unread email in a mail client. Clicking on a headline will display the contents of the news under it and double clicking on a news headline with point the user to the site where the news has its origin.

The options window allow modifying the behavior of the software and also the way the news are displayed, as the user can select fonts and colors for read and unread news.

Pros

The software supports more RSS feeds at once and also displays the read and unread news headlines. Also, news feeds can be organized into groups, to be easier to find a desired headline.

Cons

The interface is too simple and doesn't supports themes or skins. Also, the features of the program are limited and advanced user may not appreciate this. RssReader is a great RSS client that has all the feature you could want from a news reader.
